Nearly two years after carrying out overseas archaeology
projects in Uzbekistan, the archaeology excavation methods
of the Luoyang City Cultural Heritage and Archaeology
Research Institute, especially the drilling survey technol -
ogy, have been highly appreciated by the relevant local
institutions. The two sides will jointly carry out archaeological
work in the Fergana Valley to explore the mysterious
ancient country "Tayuen”on the Silk Roads.
"We have talked about cooperation. The Fergana State
University of Uzbekistan is ready to set up the Luoyang
Archaeological Methods Research Center. In addition to
field work, we will also carry out academic exchanges, personnel
training and other projects." Shi Jiazhen, Director of
the Luoyang City Cultural Heritage and Archaeology
Research Institute, revealed on the 9th. Professor Isamidinov
Mohamed of Fergana State University recently
attended an archaeological salon in Luoyang, saying that
Luoyang has had close contact with the Fergana V alley
since ancient times. During the Tang Dynasty, Luoyang was
inhabited by a large number of Sogdians. It was really
significant to establish a cooperative relationship now.
Prior to this, the Luoyang C ity Cultural Heritage and
Archaeology Research Institute had carried out a series of
overseas archaeological work, including the search for Hun
Court in Mongolia and the study of Yuezhi people’ s history
in Tajikistan. The cooperation with Fergana State University
was expected to promote a clearer understanding of
Tayuen.
