　　The site of Marjanai is situated about 21 km northwest of Mingora city(ancient Mangchali) in Tehsil Kabal, District Swat. It lies at the foot of thehills which separate Parai Shamuzai and Barikot (Alexender's Bazira) from theKabal valley, in the Amluk Tangi area of the Swagali vally.

　　

　　It is watered by seasonal streams coming from west and east Tangi，which flow during rainy daysin front of the site. and join the nearby Swat river downstream. On thesurrounding hills the remains of ancient buildings are still visible; the styleof their masonry indicates that they belong to the Hindu shahi period and theyfollow a more or less uniform plan.

　　

　　Like other Buddhist sites，Marjanai has an ideal setting.The site stands in a beautifulvalley and is surrounded by a defensive wall. Right by the bed of a seasonal Khwarthe terraces rise upwards to the foot of the hills.

　　
The site today itself standson a terraced field, whose supporting walls were constructed from the dressed stoncblocks of the ancient remains. It was unnder cultivation for many years andsome sculprures are reported to have been found by the ownter of the land.
